About our School: ORGANISATIONAL PROFILE

The M.S.H.S.S. is situated at Ranny a small town popularly known as “The Queen of the High Ranges “which lies on the banks of the Holy river Pampa The School was founded by erstwhile members of the Knanaya community in 1916 and is named after His Grace Geevarghese Mor Sevarious, the first Metropolitan of the Knanaya Jacobite Church. During its ninety years of existence the school’s growth has been rapid and its performance has been proved remarkable. Tens of thousands of students who have emerged from the portals of MSHSS have gone on to make a mark for themselves in India and almost all countries abroad. The School has always played a pivotal role in exerting influence in the social, cultural, political and educational fields and stands in the frontline in the sphere of education in central Kerala. The first Head Master of this prestigious educational institution was Very Rev. P.J. Thomas Purackal Cor Episcopa and its first Manager Rev. Abraham Malpan, Thazhathu. The school was founded as a middle school and upgraded as High school in 1935. In 1998 the M.S. H.S was again upgraded as a Higher Secondary School when Sri. C.K. Abraham, Charivuparambil was its Manager. Two batches for Science and one each for Commerce and Humanities were allotted initially. Later in 1999 an additional batch was allotted for the Science stream. By the grace of God the school continues to harvest remarkable achievements in curricular, co-curricular and extra curricular activities. Around Five Hundred and Fifty students who are on the rolls of the MSHSS at present are guided by twenty one dedicated and committed teaching staff and four non-teaching staff members under the guidance of Principal Smt. Valsala Zacharia. The school is managed by the members of the School Managing Committee with Sri. Philip Abraham, Mundukottackal, as the Corporate Manager of Schools owned by St. Thomas Valiapally Edavaka. About our N.S.S Unit: Our school National Service Scheme unit was started in the academic year 2004-2005 after the sanctioning from the Department of Higher Secondary Education, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Our unit consist of 100 enthusiastic volunteers from plus one and plus two classes. Our Unit is functioning well with the leadership of dedicated student volunteer secretaries under the guidance of our principal Smt. VALSALA ZACHARIAH K and Teacher In charge called "NSS Programme Officer". Mr. SMIJU JACOB, HSST, Chemistry with the help of Unit Advisory committee, P.T.A Committee & School Managing Committee. Objectives: National Service Scheme (NSS) Launched in the Mahatma Gandhi Birth Centenary year 1969, as a student youth service programme. National Service Scheme (NSS) aims at arousing social consciousness of the youth with an overall objective of personality development of the students through community service. Motto: "Not me, but you"

Duration: Two years Programmes: • Special camping ( 10 days ) • Regular activities ( community work ); 120 hours in a year Activities: • Improvement of campuses • Tree Plantation • Constructive work in adopted villages and slums • Work in welfare institutions • Blood donation • Personality development progammes. • Student counseling • National day celebrations • Adult and non-formal education • Health, nutrition, family welfare, AIDS awareness campaigns • Construction of durable assets • Assistance to Youth and Sports Activities • Sustainable development with emphasis on wasteland development and watershed management. NSS Emblem: The symbol of NSS is based on the Rath wheel of the Konak Sun temple of Orissa. These giant wheels of the sun temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release and signify the movement in life and space. The wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life. The red colour in the badge indicates that the NSS volunteers are full of blood- lively, active and spirited. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS………….. Present Thrust Areas: A Camp of 10 day duration is conducted every year in an adopted village/slum on specific theme. This year we are organizing a special camp (10 day) at MOR CLIMES PUBLIC SCHOOL , Perumpuzha, Ranny. Composition of NSS Unit:

One NSS unit consists of 100 student Volunteers led by a Teacher In charge called "NSS Programme Officer". Our Programme officer is Mr. SMIJU JACOB, HSST, Chemistry. Approach: NSS attempts to establish meaningful linkages between • Campus and Community • School and Villages • Knowledge and action Funding: • Joint funding by the centre and the states in the ratio 7:5. Strength from the Past: • Over the years, NSS has made significant contribution in the field of student empowerment programmers, literacy, disaster management, health and family welfare and environment. Special campaigns were launched on social uplift programmers’, AIDS awareness, social evils, creating visible impact on the development process of the country. Current Year Initiatives: 1.
