(AN EDUCATIONAL EXPERIMENT IN COMMUNITY SERVICE)
About our unit:
Our school National Service Scheme unit was started in the academic year 2004-2005 after the sanctioning from the Department of Higher Secondary Education, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Our unit consist of 100 enthusiastic volunteers from plus one and plus two classes. Our Unit is functioning well with the leadership ofdedicated student volunteer secretaries under the guidance of our principal Smt. VALSALA ZACHARIAH K and teacher In charge called "NSS Programme Officer". Mr. SMIJU JACOB, HSST, Chemistry with the help of Unit Advisory committee, P.T.A Committee & School Managing Committee.
Objectives:
National Service Scheme (NSS) Launched in the Mahatma Gandhi Birth Centenary year 1969, as a student youth service programme. National Service Scheme (NSS) aims at arousing social consciousness of the youth with an overall objective of personality development of the students through community service.

Duration:
Two years
Programmes:
· Special camping ( 10 days )
· Regular activities ( community work ); 120 hours in a year
Activities:
· Improvement of campuses
· Tree Plantation
· Constructive work in adopted villages and slums
· Work in welfare institutions
· Blood donation
· Personality development progammes.
· Student counseling
· National day celebrations
· Adult and non-formal education
· Health, nutrition, family welfare, AIDS awareness campaigns
· Construction of durable assets
· Assistance to Youth and Sports Activities
· Sustainable development with emphasis on wasteland development and watershed management.
NSS Emblem:
The symbol of NSS is based on the Rath wheel of the Konak Sun temple of Orissa. These giant wheels of the sun temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release and signify the movement in life and space. The wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life. The red colour in the badge indicates that the NSS volunteers are full of blood- lively, active and spirited. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSSi;k
Present Thrust Areas:
A Camp of 10 day duration is conducted every year in an adopted village/slum on specific theme.This year we are organizing a special camp (10 day) at MOR CLIMES PUBLIC SCHOOL , Perumpuzha, ranny.
Composition of NSS Unit:
One NSS unit consists of 100 student volunteers led by a teacher In charge called "NSS Programme Officer". Our Programme officer is Mr. SMIJU JACOB, HSST, Chemistry.

NSS attempts to establish meaningful linkages between
· Campus and Community
· School and Villages
· Knowledge and action
Funding:
· Joint funding by the centre and the states in the ratio 7:5.
Strength from the Past:
· Over the years, NSS has made significant contribution in the field of student empowerment programmers, literacy, disaster management, health and family welfare and environment. Special campaigns were launched on social uplift programmes, AIDS awareness, social evils, creating visible impact on the development process of the country.
